Axel is the Director at National Wealth Fund leading its private sector activities on Heat Networks. He is a seasoned clean energy and infrastructure private equity and debt professional with more than 25 years’ experience who cut his teeth in the sector in the early 2000s at one of the infrastructure investment pioneers, the Bechtel Group, after having started his career in management consulting and corporate finance advisory. He subsequently worked for the European Investment Bank, both in private equity and project finance, as well as for a cleantech VC fund. Since then Axel has co-led the financing of several high profile infrastructure projects at the Infrastructure and Projects Authority, where his unit became the UK Infrastructure Bank and now the National Wealth Fund. He has a Masters in Management from the University of St Gallen in Switzerland and a PhD in Finance from Manchester Business School. In his spare time, Axel enjoys music, skiing and spending time with his 16 year-old son.
